I binge-watched Only Murders In The Building in 48 hours, AMA
I wasn’t expecting to write about Only Murders In The Building. I’m back at home for the first time in two weeks - one week spent in Tuscany with sweet, generous Daniel, the other spent partly in my hometown of Coventry and partly on Anthony and Joe’s sofa bed back in London, waiting for Michael to end his Covid isolation. I have been swishing a thought I had about rap features in pop music around my head all week, inspired by the suave (dare I say, romantic?) way Pitbull resolves his verse on Alexandra Burke’s 2010 hit ‘All Night Long’ by linking it back to the title, and I was going to write it comfortably at my desk on Friday morning, having slept peacefully in my own bed. But here I am now instead. I’ll write about rap features another time.
My little stopover with the boys coincided with me turning my phone off again this week, which meant that on Monday, when Anthony asked me whether I’d heard of Only Murders In The Building, I said that I had, because I remember reading about it on Twitter, probably via PopCrave, but I didn’t know it was available to watch because I hadn’t seen anybody talking about it. Also I hate to admit, but I had already kind of dismissed it in my head because it was a Selena Gomez project.
This is no disrespect to Selena Gomez, by the way. I think it would be fair to describe the projects she’s been part of in her career so far as decent, but not ground-breaking. I’m not in any rush to check out the work she’s involved in but when I do get around to it, by and large I have no real criticisms. If you’re reading this and thinking “okay Grace, we get why Selena Gomez wouldn’t necessarily sell you in on this show, but the legendary Steve Martin? the hilarious Martin Short?” well to that I would say, please consider that I get my news from PopCrave and so of course I didn’t know that the legendary Steve Martin and the hilarious Martin Short also star. (And for the record, Selena is really good in this show.)
